Patti
Baumgartner Patti Baumgartner, a blind artist, creates art from stone, ceramics, and found objects. Patti studied fine arts at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and the University of Alaska, Southeast during the 1980's. Since 1990 Patti has owned Sandpiper Studios in Juneau. At her studio Patti creates sculptures, paintings and ceramics. As a blind artist, Patti has adopted varied techniques to create her art work. Art for Patti is meant to be touched. By using textures, patterns and natural materials, Patti's art expresses her love of beauty and nature. Patti's work is eclectic - consisting of the best from diverse sources. Patti enjoys working with clay and stone, but does not limit herself to just one medium. During the past ten years Patti has instructed sculpture techniques, ceramics, painting and mask-making for students of all ages and abilities at local schools, recreation centers, and the Juneau Fine Arts Camp. She has advocated for people with disabilities and served on city and state task forces for disabled rights. |
