David Riccio

Paintings

David spent his boyhood growing up on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota.  The fishing, hunting, boating, hiking and the natural beauty of the out-of-doors have left a profound imprint on his view of life and the things he values.

In 1975, David moved to Alaska, where at the University of Alaska, Southeast he studied the arts at the University of Alaska.  David has maintained an active and ongoing relationship with academia and has participated in a number of University of Alaska roles: Student, Consultant, and Instructor, primarily in the arts and computer sciences. Outside of the university environment David has also studied metalworking, stone carving, jewelry making, gemology, lapidary, photography, digital art, and collage.  In recent years he has concentrated primarily on the creation of two-dimension artwork.

Over the last decade David's once “hobby” of art has become a more primary activity in his daily life.  He has participated in a number of juried and non-juried local (Juneau area) art shows.  He received a number of awards for his printmaking and has contributed artwork to a number of publications including the University of Alaska, Southeast’s literary journal and the cover artwork for the humorous Alaskan wildlife guidebook "Hot on the Trail".

David’s work has been shown in a number of local art shows including in a couple of two person shows.  He has also shown his work on a semi-regular basis in a number of other local (Juneau) galleries (Portfolio Arts, Faces, Places and Things, Rainbow Books, and the Big Picture Gallery).  Currently (since March, 2003) David has his work showing at Juneau Artists Gallery.  In the Fall of 2005 David had a month long show at KTOO titled Stream Dreams 2005 which has been the recurring theme in a number of his latest works.
